1ST BROOKLANDS TROOP OF BOY SCOUTS
‘Scouting For Boys’, by Baden Powell, was being published in fortnightly parts, capturing the spirit and imagination of the youth everywhere. Sale was not to be left out of this building excitement and the gathering
together of a group of local boys, as legend has it, under the light of a lamp post in Marsland Road, Sale, heralded the birth of the Brooklands Troop.

This was in the January of 1909 but by the winter of that year, they
had managed to secure the use of a cellar in Brogden House, the residence of a Mr. Gick who was to become the Troop’s first Scoutmaster.
